Dinan

Dinan is, together with VITRÉ, THE 'mediaeval' town of Brittany.

Its beginnings are about 1000 years in the past. The town is protected roundabout by ramparts, among the most impressives of France, which are as well preserved as the houses inside of them. Many painters and writers came here to work in this so authentic atmosphere of another age.

The town is situated, as our village Saint Suliac, on the borders of the Rance, here it's its river portion. From the harbour, the most picturesque street of Brittany leads you up to the city (60 meters higher), showing many houses with corbelling upper storeys (the "Maison du Gouverneur" is one of the nicest). This street is called "Rue de JERZUAL" : also a number of craftsmen here display their traditional know-how of beltmaker, potter, glassblower ...
